Collecting biological samples

Collecting biological samples

In AIMS we are studying the evolution of intestinal bacteria from birth up to the age of three years old. By providing small biological samples to us, you will enable us to track your child’s intestinal bacteria. This will give us a closer look at the invisible world on and within your child’s body: little by little, test tube by test tube.

Research shows that family members also have an influence on the development of a child’s intestinal bacteria. This is why we would like to include other family members in the study, including the mother’s partner and (where applicable) a brother or sister of the child. By collecting biological samples from them no more than twice, you will enable us to study the influence of family members on your child’s microbiome.

For the AIMS study we will ask you to collect small biological samples. The details of what to collect, how and how often for each participant can be checked via the links below.
Collecting the biological samples is easy. We have produced instruction videos and written instructions that explain exactly how to collect the samples simply and hygienically.
